Because the Vick debate has resurfaced on my Twitter with me in the middle of it again, I think this needs to be brought back.

As that dog lay dying on the ground fighting for air, Quanis Phillips grabbed its front legs and Michael Vick grabbed its hind legs. They swung the dog over their head like a jump rope then slammed it to the ground. The first impact didn’t kill it. So Phillips and Vick slammed it again. The two men kept at it, alternating back and forth, pounding the creature against the ground, until at last, the little red dog was dead.  - Jim Gorant. To me, this is absolutely unforgivable; not because he’s a football player, not because of the color of his skin, not because of where and how he was raised, but because he is a human being. No person should be able to do this to not only a dog, but a puppy.

The little red dog Jim Gorant talks about in that out take from his book was barely a year old, if that. Why did she get the treatment that she did? Because she didn’t show any fighting personality in the test run on her earlier that day. When they did the autopsy on her, nearly every bone in her little body was broken. This isn’t the sign of someone who was raised wrong; this is a sign of someone who is fundamentally broken. At least shooting a dog is humane, hanging them and beating them to death is not. I’m sorry, you just cannot tell me he did not know what he was doing was wrong. To do something this awful you simply need to get some kind of enjoyment from it.
